Chapter 1: A Breathless Escape & An Unwelcome Encounter
Once upon a time, deep within the heart of an ancient, whispering jungle, little Kancil the Mouse Deer was catching his breath. Only moments ago, he had accomplished an extraordinary feat: he had outsmarted a river full of fierce crocodiles, hopping across their scaly backs as if they were nothing more than stepping stones in a babbling brook!
He leaned his tiny back against the smooth bark of a giant banyan tree, panting lightly. His little belly rumbled with a loud, grumbling sound. Running for his life had consumed every drop of his energy, and now his stomach was completely empty. He knew he needed to find some fresh, sweet green leaves before long.
After catching his breath, Kancil trotted gracefully along the mossy jungle path, keeping his big eyes wide open for delicious forest treats. But alas! Fate had another surprise waiting in the shadows. Suddenly, out from behind a thick cluster of wild ferns leapt a grand, terrifying shadow. It was Mr. Tiger! His golden eyes gleamed with hunger, and his sharp claws scratched the damp dirt.
Mr. Tiger: "Aha! What a marvelous stroke of good luck! I was just wondering what to have for lunch, and here walks the sweetest little tender morsel in the entire forest!"
The great predator grinned wickedly, showing off rows of razor-sharp fangs that sparkled dangerously in the dappled sunlight.
Though Kancil’s little heart pounded against his ribs like a panicked drum, he did not let a single tremor show on his face. He knew that raw strength could never defeat a tiger, but clever wits certainly could!
Chapter 2: The Art of the Delay
Kancil took a slow, calm breath, standing tall on his slender legs. He put on his warmest, most innocent smile as he looked up at the towering predator.
Mouse Deer: "Oh, good day to you, noble Mr. Tiger! What an honor it is to meet you. However, as you can see, I am terribly thin and bony today. Wouldn't you prefer a plump, juicy feast instead?"
Mr. Tiger raised a thick eyebrow, twitching his long whiskers in suspicion.
Mr. Tiger: "Plump or thin, a meal is a meal! My belly is grumbling, little one, and you will do just fine."Mouse Deer: "Ah, but hear me out, mighty king! If you grant me just a few brief moments to nibble on those lush, tender leaves over there, my belly will be full and juicy. Then, and only then, will I make a truly splendid feast for a magnificent hunter like yourself."Mr. Tiger: "Hmm... Is that so? Or are you trying to spin one of your famous little tricks, Mouse Deer? I shall give you time to eat, but do not dream of fleeing! My legs are long, and I can catch you in a single bound."Mouse Deer: "Oh, heaven forbid, Mr. Tiger! How could tiny little legs like mine ever outrun such a powerful beast? But alas, your terrifying fangs make me so nervous that my poor stomach tightens up. Would you be so kind as to turn around for just a moment while I dine?"Mr. Tiger: "Very well! I shall turn my back. But hurry up, Kancil, for my patience is as short as my hunger is great!"
Mr. Tiger turned his massive head and body away. But the moment his back was turned, Kancil didn't nibble a single leaf—he bounded into the bushes and darted away as fast as his little hooves could carry him!
Chapter 3: The Chase Begins
Silence hung over the clearing. Minutes ticked away like slow-falling leaves. Mr. Tiger tapped his heavy paw impatiently against the forest floor.
Mr. Tiger: "Are you quite finished yet, Kancil? My stomach is practically roaring!"
No answer came. Only the quiet chirping of crickets filled the air.
Mr. Tiger: "Kancil? Little Mouse Deer?"
Mr. Tiger whipped around, only to find the clearing completely empty! A few tiny hoofprints led straight into the dense wilderness. The tiger’s fur stood on end, and his eyes burned with fiery rage.
Mr. Tiger: "ROAR! How foolish of me to be outwitted by a tiny creature! Mark my words, Mouse Deer! Wherever you hide, under whichever bush or behind whichever rock, I shall track you down and gobble you up!"
With a mighty leap, Mr. Tiger sprinted into the jungle, following the faint scent and tiny tracks left behind by the clever little fugitive.
Chapter 4: The Sacred Belt of King Solomon
Meanwhile, deep in the shaded groves of the forest, Kancil was running out of steam. His legs felt like lead, and his breath came in ragged gasps. Just as he slowed down to catch his breath, he spotted something extraordinary lying coiled beneath a cool, leafy canopy.
It was a giant python, fast asleep after a heavy meal, its patterned scales gleaming brightly in the dim light.
Mouse Deer: "Oh dear me! A slumbering giant snake! I must tread lightly... But wait! If I keep running, Mr. Tiger will surely catch up to my tired self. Ah, a grand idea strikes my mind!"
Instead of running away, Kancil sat down right beside the sleeping python, crossing his legs casually and adopting a very solemn, important posture.
Sure enough, with a crash of branches and a low growl, Mr. Tiger burst into the clearing. His sharp eyes immediately locked onto the little Mouse Deer.
Mr. Tiger: "Aha! Found you at last, you slippery little rascal! How dare you trick me earlier? Now, prepare yourself, for your journey ends here!"Mouse Deer: "Shhh! Quiet, please! Soften your voice, Mr. Tiger!"Mr. Tiger: "Why on earth should I be quiet?!"Mouse Deer: "Because I have been entrusted with a sacred duty by King Solomon himself! I am guarding the Royal Golden Belt of the Great Emperor of the Animal Kingdom."
Kancil pointed reverently toward the thick, coiled python sleeping peacefully on the ground.
Chapter 5: The Grand Entanglement
Mr. Tiger squinted at the coiled creature, snorting with laughter.
Mr. Tiger: "Do you take me for a complete fool, Kancil? That is clearly a snake, not a belt! Your tricks will not save you this time."Mouse Deer: "Oh, how unfortunate that you do not recognize such magic! This is no ordinary creature. It is the sacred belt of King Solomon! Legend says that whoever wears this magnificent belt around their waist shall instantly gain supreme power, and every beast in the forest will bow down to them in fear and awe."
Mr. Tiger paused. He stroked his chin with his big paw, his greedy heart fluttering at the thought of absolute power over the jungle.
Mr. Tiger: "Hmm... Is that truly so? Absolute power, you say?"
Mouse Deer: "Indeed! But alas, only a majestic creature like you could ever look truly noble wearing it. If you wish, you may try it on just once. After all, trying it on cannot hurt, can it?"
Mr. Tiger: "Well... I suppose there is no harm in trying!"
Driven by curiosity and greed, Mr. Tiger leaned forward. He gently flicked his rough tongue against the python to stroke the 'belt' before wrapping it around his waist. But the moment his wet tongue touched the python, the giant snake snapped awake!
Giant Snake: "WHO DARES DISTURB MY SACRED SLUMBER?!"
Furious at being awakened so rudely, the giant python instantly struck! Before Mr. Tiger could react, the powerful snake coiled its thick, muscular body tightly around the tiger's torso, squeezing with all its might.
Mr. Tiger: "ROAR! Let go of me, you beast!"
The tiger slashed with his sharp claws and snapped his fierce jaws, while the giant snake squeezed tighter and tighter. A ferocious, chaotic battle erupted in the clearing, dust and leaves flying into the air!
Chapter 6: A Clever Vanishing Act
While the tiger and the snake were locked in their epic struggle, Kancil gave a quiet little chuckle. He tip-toed backward out of the clearing, step by delicate step.
Mouse Deer: "I had better make my grand exit before those two figure out my little game!"
With a joyful leap, the clever little Mouse Deer scampered away into the emerald green forest, light on his feet and free as the wind, leaving behind a very embarrassed tiger and a very cranky snake.
And so, clever wits saved the day once more!
Give it a try! Follow Kancil's two clever tricks to escape a hungry Tiger.
