The Origin of Mount Merapi
This is a folklore from Yogyakarta. In ancient times, the Gods in heaven placed a mountain in the middle of Java Island. The mountain is named Jamurdipa. The purpose of placing a mountain on the island of Java is none other than to balance the shape of the land on the island. The island of Java turns out to have uneven land, there are highlands, lowlands, valleys, ravines and so on. Initially, Mount Jamurdipa was located in the South Coast area, but the mountain was moved to the border of Sleman, Boyolali, and Klaten Regencies.
