5 Folklores from Aceh

The following is a collection of Indonesian folklore folktales, fairy tales, and legends in the midst of the people of Aceh Province.

Aceh Province has a capital in the city of Banda Aceh, located in the westernmost part of the island of Sumatra, bordering the Province of North Sumatra.

The Seven Boys, Aceh Folklore
In a village located in the Aceh region, there lived a husband and wife who lived with their seven biological children. They live in harmony, peace and happiness. The eldest is 10 years old, while the youngest is 2 years old. Both of their parents worked as vegetable farmers in a garden. The vegetables are sold to the market to meet their daily needs, and the rest they use to eat together.

Long ago, there was a kingdom called Alas Country. The Kingdom of Alas is ruled by a wise king. The king had no children. Even though the king and empress were anxious to have a successor who could hold the reins of the next king of Alas Country. Even though they have not had children for a long time, the king and empress do not stop praying for their wishes to come true.

In a village located close to Krueng (River) Peusangan, there lived a teenage boy with an elderly mother. The child is named Ahmad Rhang Manyang. Ahmad is a young man who is diligent, obedient to worship, devoted to his mother and has a handsome face. His father has been dead for a long time, for that he earns a living as a farm laborer to fulfill his daily needs.

In ancient times, there was a kingdom in the Aceh region, precisely in Simeulue. The kingdom was led by a king who loved his son very much. His son's name is Rohib. Rohib is very spoiled by his parents. All the wishes of the Rohib are always granted.

The following is a folk tale from Aceh Province, about a little boy named Cabe Rawit. Once upon a time, long ago in a small hut, there lived an old husband and wife. Their life is very poor. The husband works as a laborer in the market to fulfill his daily needs. In their old age, they have not been blessed with a child.
