The Sparrow and The Parrot

Once upon a time in the era of the Prophet Sulaiman was going on a famine season. The reason is that many diseases that damage plants cause food is difficult to obtain.

One day, the Parrot bird was about to circumcise its calf. The Parrot does not have money to buy skullcap and sarong. Therefore, the Parrot then went to the market to sell his rice. On the way, the Parrot bird met with Sparrow bird. "Where are you going to carry the rice, Parrot?" Sparrow bird said.
The Sparrow and The Parrot

"I want to go to the market to sell my rice to buy sarongs and skullcap. I was about to circumcise my child. This is the only rice I have. The rest is eaten by disease. " said the Parrot bird.

"Stop for a moment, I happen to need rice. I want to see whether you have good paddy or not. " said Sparrow bird.

The Parrot bird lower the rice. Tik ... tick ... tick the sound of Sparrow bird, stroking and turning the rice over and over. The Sparrow bird offered bargain rice at very cheap prices which of course was rejected by Parrot. Actually the Sparrow bird has no money, so he plays cheats by flipping through rice when in fact he eats the rice.

"What are you doing Sparrow? Why did you eat my rice? " shouted Parrot annoyed.

"I didn't eat your rice, I just checked whether it was eaten by you or not?" The Sparrow protested.

The Parrot bird are angry with the Sparrow cheating. Parrot grips the neck of the Sparrow's neck and then he pulls with all his strength until it arises. The Sparrow is struggling in pain. Immediately he smashed the rice paddles into the Parrot's beak until the Parrot's beak bent downward. This is the origin of why the Parrot bird have bent beaks down and the Sparrow bird have teleh on their necks.

This is a folklore from East Java about the origin of why the Sparrow bird has a stomach or teleh at the nape of its neck and why the Parrot bird has a bent beak.
