The Origin of Why the River Meanders

The Origin of Why the River Meanders

Snakes facing the king of serpents flocked snagging down the mountain to the seabed. The former road taken by the snakes into a river. That is why the river meanders along the snake's path.

Tributary

Beyond the main river route through which snakes pass, there are creeks. Why does this happen? Among the snakes are naughty snakes who want to overtake other snakes by finding their own way to face the snakes. That is why the river besides winding also has tributary branches.

Why River Water Never Drys

The serpents who persevere in meditation will be rewarded by the dragon. All knowledge possessed by the king of snakes will be given to snakes who pass in his hermitage. The characteristics of snakes that pass in hermitage are that they have the knowledge to be able to bring heavy rain, lightning, earthquake, flood and others. The path taken by a serpent who is rewarded by a snake king is usually accompanied by a flood.

Because they will meet the king, the snakes will present their offspring who have become humans as tribute. That is why if there is a flood, many trees fall, houses collapse and many people who die washed away by the flood. The dead humans are the children and grandchildren of snakes offered to the king of snakes as a tribute to gain knowledge.

The humans who died carried away by the flood would later be revived as snakes by the snake king. By the dragon, they will be given the ability to survive in the water and also be able to fly. They will be revived as large snakes, legged, winged, capable of flying in the sky and crowned. Because they flew so close to the sun, they sweat profusely. Their sweat water falls to the earth and becomes rain water. Such is the fable of the origin of why the river meanders. Of course this is just a fairy tale we don't need to believe the truth.

The Brantas River meanders and the water never runs out. The upstream of the Brantas river is in the Malang area then flows south to Blitar, turns to Kediri and finally turns again to Surabaya. According to folklore from East Java, why the river meanders and the water is never exhausted is associated with ascetic snakes on the mountains.
