In ancient times, a king of the Surakarta Palace had 4 children. 3 children are boys, while the youngest is a girl. The four children live in the palace environment.
At one time, they were disturbed by the fragrant smell that was always there all the time. They don't usually smell such a pungent smell.
"I smell a fragrant, do you feel it too?" the eldest asked his younger siblings.
"We also feel it, our old brother," said the three eldest brothers.
"Do you know where the fragrance comes from?" asked the eldest.
The youngest daughter who was the only daughter of the king spoke up. "I doesn't know for sure where the source of the fragrance came from, but i am sure that the smell comes from the east," explained the youngest sister.
The eldest pondered, but finally said "Should we better find the source of the smell, I'm very curious."
"That's right brother, I'm also curious," said his sister.
"We'd better head east and try to find the source of the fragrance. We have to ask permission from the king's father to wander in search of the source of the fragrance, "explained the eldest.
They were finally given permission by the king to travel in search of the source of the fragrance. They have done careful preparations, such as food supplies, clothes, and other equipment to support their journey.
They went to the east, the more to the east the fragrance became more fragrant. The smell made them even more curious.
They traveled a very long way. For months they went through a journey full of obstacles. They had to cross rivers, face wild animals, climb hills and mountains, until they crossed the strait that is now called the Bali Strait.
After arriving at the opposite island, namely the island of Bali, they still continued their journey to find the source of the fragrance. The longer the smell got stronger, they were sure that it would not be long before they found the source of the fragrance in question.
They arrived at the border of Ciluk Village, Karangasem, in the Buleleng area. After arriving at the southern foot of Mount Batur, the youngest daughter was amazed by the local scenery. The princess could not continue the journey. This raises a question for the eldest son to ask his younger brother.
"What is it that you don't want to continue the journey?" asked the eldest brother.
"I feel this place is so comfortable and quiet, i want to live here, brother," explained the youngest sister.
The youngest brother continued her words, "May i stay here?"
The older brother couldn't stop his sister's request. "If that's what you want, fine, you can stay here."
The three youngest daughters finally continued their journey to find the fragrance. After arriving in the Kedisan area, southwest of Lake Batur to be exact, they heard the sound of a very beautiful bird. The sound of the bird sounded melodious to them.
According to folklore, the third prince was so happy to hear the bird's voice that he shouted with joy. The attitude of the youngest brother turned out to cause dislike for the eldest, namely the first prince. He does not want to have a brother who has a temper that he thinks is not good. Finally, the brother asked his brother to just stay in that place, without continuing the journey. It turned out that the third prince chose to stay on the journey with his two brothers. They end up fighting. Because he was already angry with his youngest brother, the third prince, the eldest then kicked his youngest brother until he fell down. The third prince turned into a statue in the form of sitting cross-legged. The statue is located in Kedisan, is a statue of Batu Bathara (God) incarnation of the third prince from Solo. The incarnation of the third prince from Solo was given the title Ratu Sakti Sang Hyang Jero. The statue resides in a sacred building called Meru Tumpang Pitu, Kedisan Village.
The two princes who were the first and second princes continued their journey. On their way along the eastern shore of Lake Batur, they met beautiful girls. The second prince was interested in greeting the two girls. However, the first prince did not like his younger brother's actions. In the end, there was a quarrel between them. The first prince aka the eldest told his younger brother not to continue the journey. The eldest asked the younger brother to stay in the area. However, the younger brother did not want his brother's will. He wanted to continue his journey with his eldest brother. Disputes ensued, to the point of causing tremendous anger for the first prince. The eldest brother finally kicked the second prince until he fell down. The second prince eventually became the village head of the place. The village was named Abang Dukuh, given the name Abang because the village was originally part of Abang Village, while Dukuh means face down.
The journey continued by the first prince. He took the bank of Lake Batur which was quite steep. When he arrived at a place, he met a very beautiful goddess. A goddess is sitting under a taru incense tree. The beauty of the goddess made the first prince fall in love and intend to propose to her. The closer to the goddess, the more intense the fragrance.
The prince finally asked the goddess's willingness to accept his proposal. The goddess asked the approval of the first prince's proposal to her brother. The application was accepted, with the condition that the first prince wanted to become a village leader or pancer universe (world stake).
The wedding party between the goddess and the first prince was very lively. After marriage, the first prince was immediately appointed as a village leader or what is called pancer universe. The village was named Trunyan, which was taken from the names of taru and incense. Taru means tree, while incense means fragrant. The first prince was given the title Ratu Sakti Pancering Jagat who was finally believed to be the supreme god of the Trunyan people. While his wife was given the title Ratu Ayu Pingit Dalam Dasar and was believed to be the ruler of Lake Batur, so she was called the Goddess of Lake Batur.
The first prince with the title Ratu Sakti Pancering Jagat led his area wisely and wisely. Not long after, the village turned into a small kingdom that still intrigues people out there. This curiosity arises from the fragrant smell that comes from the incense tree or taru incense in the village. Ratu Sakti Pancering Jagat finally decided to his people that if someone died, his body should be placed on the ground and under the incense tree. The bodies were left to rot on the ground. This is intended to neutralize the fragrant smell of the incense tree. So that the village no longer arouses curiosity for outsiders to come to it or even carry out attacks, just because of the sweet smell of the incense tree. Since then, the people of Trunyan Village have always kept the bodies of the dead under the incense tree.
This story tells about the odyssey of the sons and daughters of the king of the Surakarta Palace who are curious about the fragrant smell that comes from the east. They finally found the source of the fragrance. It turns out that the fragrance comes from the Bali area. Whether the story is true or not, only God knows.
