Cindelaras Story

Slander Concubine to Empress

Once upon a time, the King of the Kingdom of Jenggala named Raden Putra, had two beautiful beautiful wives. The first wife was the good-hearted Empress, while the second wife of King Jenggala was the Concubine, who unfortunately had jealousy and envy. The concubine always envied the Empress. The royal concubine is not satisfied with her current position. Especially from a physician he got the news that the empress was pregnant, which of course would later become the crown prince of the kingdom of Jenggala. He was afraid that his position in Raden Putra's eyes would be eliminated. He had an evil plan to remove the Empress from the palace so that Raden Putra's attention would only be devoted to him.

"I should be the empress. I have to find a way to get the empress out of the palace. " thought the concubine.

Secretly the king's concubine drew up an evil plan. In carrying out the action, the Concubine worked with a physician. If the plan is successful, then the doctor is promised to be given a special gift. The concubine then pretended to be sick. When Raden Putra asked the physician about the concubine's illness, the physician made a false statement that the concubine had been poisoned by the Empress.

"O doctor, what pain does my wife suffer?" Raden Putra asked the physician.

"Forgiveness, sire. He is sick from eating food that contains poison. " the doctor answered.

"God damn it! Who dares to poison the concubine, physician? Do you know who the culprit is? " asked Raden Putra.

"My Lord, dear. I don't mean to be presumptuous. It is the queen who has poisoned the concubines. " the doctor made a false testimony.

Raden Putra almost could not believe hearing the doctor's words that the Empress had acted evil to poison the Concubine. Finally Raden Putra ordered his patih to throw the Empress to the forest. It was not enough just to drive out, the king also ordered to kill him after he arrived in the forest. "Hi Patih! My queen has done evil by poisoning concubines. Take the empress to the forest. When you reach the forest, kill him. "

"Yes, sire. I did it. " Patih answered.

The Queen was Exiled to the Jungle Forest

The patih thought that it was impossible for a woman as great as a queen to commit atrocities to poison concubines. In fact the patih suspected that the concubine had slandered the empress to remove her from the palace. Patih Kingdom of Jenggala felt that the Empress was innocent but inevitably she had to obey Raden Putra's orders. Soon the Patih brought the Empress to be exiled in the forest.

"Sorry, Gusti. I know that Gusti is innocent. But I must carry out His Majesty's orders. " said the patih.

"Just do your job, O patih! I am willing to accept this punishment. " answered the empress.

Arriving in the forest, the governor did not kill the Empress, instead he made a house to stay for the empress. The Patih also found enough food for a few days while the empress did not know the forest. The empress was very grateful to the governor.

To deceive the king's orders, the Patih caught a rabbit, then slaughtered the rabbit. Then he rubbed the rabbit's blood on his inherited kris as evidence to King Jenggala that he had killed the Empress.

"I left Gusti in the middle of the forest. I will confess to the king that I killed Gusti. This blood-stained kris is proof. " said the patih.

"Thank you, Uncle Patih for your help. I will not forget Uncle Patih's kindness. " the Empress said to the Royal Highness.

After the Royal Regent died, the Empress lived alone in the middle of the forest. At that time the Queen was in a state of pregnancy. Day after day passed by the empress heavily in the forest. In a state of pregnancy, she must find food and protect herself from the threats of wild animals.

Over time, the Empress finally gave birth to a handsome baby boy. He gave it the name Cindelaras. With great affection, the empress took care of Cindelaras so that she became an intelligent and agile child.

Cindelaras Birth

Cindelaras grew up to be a handsome, agile boy. Since childhood he has been accustomed to hanging out with animals in the forest. These animalsbe close and obey Cindelaras's orders.

Cindelaras loved his mother very much. Every day he looks for food in the forest to support himself and his mother. But Cindelaras could not understand why a woman like her mother lived in the middle of the forest without relatives and family. And there is one more thing that really blocks his mind, who is his father?

One day, an eagle dropped a chicken egg near Cindelaras. The egg is then taken by Cindelaras. He buried it in a friend's partridge. Three days later, the eggs hatch.

Cindelaras took good care of the chicken until it grew into a strong, sturdy cock. The beak is pointed and sturdy. Both legs look sturdy with sharp pointed nails. There is one strange thing about Cindelaras's rooster is the crowing sound. "Kukuruyuuuuk ... My master's name is Cindelaras, his house is in the middle of a jungle, the roof is palm leaves, his father is Raden Putra."

Cindelaras was surprised to hear the sound of his cock crowing. He knew very well how to crow a rooster. No chicken can talk like that chicken. Cindelaras was sure that his chicken was not a haphazard chicken. And the words of the rooster seemed to answer a big question that had propped up his heart, who was his father? Is it true that his father's name is Raden Putra?

He then asked about the crowing of the chicken to his mother. Mrs. Cindelaras then related what had happened to them. The Empress said that Cindelaras was the son of Raden Putra, King of the Kingdom of Jenggala. His mother also told that he was driven into the middle of the forest because he was slandered by Selir Raden Putra.

"Cindelaras, my child. Your father is Raden Putra, king of the Kingdom of Jenggala. Mother got slander from a concubine, so she had to be exiled to the forest. " said the empress.

Cindelaras went to the Jenggala Royal Palace

After learning of his origins, Cindelaras then asked his mother's permission to go to the palace. He wanted to clear his mother's name from slander for his father's concubines. He brought his rooster along. "Mother, Cindelaras asked for permission to go to the royal palace of Jenggala. Cindelaras wants to clear my mother's good name from concubine slander. " said Cindelaras.

"OK. Be careful kiddo in your every step. I pray that You always have good luck on the way to the royal palace of Jenggala. " said the empress.

On the way to the royal palace of Jenggala, Cindelaras met a number of people pitting chickens. Seeing Cindelaras carrying a rooster, they challenged him to pit the chickens. But Cindelaras refused because he did not have a bet.

"O young man. Looks like you have a tough rooster. Let's pit the chicken. " said a chicken complainant.

"Ah no. How can I pit my cocks against your chickens, while I have no bets. " Cindelaras refused their invitation because they did not want to gamble and also did not want their chickens to get hurt.

"If so, the stakes are yourself. If you lose, you have to work for me. But if you win, I'll give you a lot of treasure. How to agree? " said the chicken spotters.

Actually Cindelaras was hesitant to pit his cock. But his rooster struggled, looking like asking him to accept the challenge. Finally Cindelaras agreed to accept the challenge of the chicken complainants. "Alright, I accept your challenge."

When his rooster is pitted against other chickens, in just a few kicks Cindelaras's rooster can defeat his enemy. One by one the complainants' chickens can easily be defeated by Cindelaras roosters. As a result, Cindelaras got a lot of money from cockfights. It was not counted how much money and jewelery Cindelaras obtained from the cockfights he participated in.

In a short time, the greatness of the Cindelaras rooster spread throughout the country. A number of chicken breeders believe that only King Raden Putra's chicken is able to compete with Cindelaras chickens.

Cindelaras' chicken news finally reached Raden Putra's ears. The king of Jenggala was curious about Cindelaras and his rooster. Raden Putra wants to pit his chicken against the Cindelaras rooster. He then ordered his soldiers to look for Cindelaras along with his rooster and bring him to the palace for a chicken fight.

"O soldiers! I heard there is a young boy who has a tough rooster. Call the child here. I want to pit my chicken with the chicken. " said Raden Putra.

Long story short, Cindelaras was found by the royal soldiers. The soldiers took him to the royal palace of Jenggala to meet the King of Jenggala.

"Are you the one named Cindelaras who owns a tough rooster? Will you pit your chicken against my rooster? " asked Raden Putra.

"I am willing Gusti Prabu." said Cindelaras. He knows that Rwrote Jenggala before him was his father.

"What's your bet then? ' asked Raden Putra.

"The bet is, if my rooster loses, I give my life to Gusti Prabu. But if my rooster wins, I ask for half the territory of the Kingdom of Jenggala. I hope that Gusti Prabu is not offended by my bet offer. " said Cindelaras.

"Well. Let's begin our rooster duel. Prepare yourself to be beheaded by the royal executioner after the fight. " said Raden Putra.

The palace then prepared to fight the two roosters in the palace square. Jenggala people flock to see the chicken fight. Not a few of the people make bets in favor of Cindelaras's roosters or Raden Putra's.

Cindelaras Roosters Beat Raden Putra Roosters

The two roosters suddenly faced each other in the palace square. Cindelaras's rooster looks bigger than the Raden Putra's rooster. But the Cindelaras rooster does not appear to show any fear. Began the battle of the two chickens accompanied by the cheers of the people watching.

Although smaller in stature, Cindelaras's rooster looks very tough. The chicken is able to make the rooster choose Raden Putra exhausted. Also the beak foot kick is very strong and powerful. Many times the rooster has Raden Putra bounced. The counterattacks of Raden Putra's rooster were so easily deflected.

Seeing this reality, Raden Putra began to worry. He was worried his cock would lose. Of course he was worried that he would lose half of his territory. Raden Putra's concern finally became reality. Not long after his roosters cawed and then ran away leaving the battle arena. It seems that he is no longer able to resist the toughness of Cindelaras's rooster. The audience who supported the Cindelaras chicken cheered happily.

Raden Putra was shocked until his body limp. Although he still cannot accept the defeat of his rooster, he as the King of Jenggala must maintain his honor. He must keep his promise. The King must be willing to give up half of the territory of the Kingdom of Jenggala to Cindelaras.

After fighting, suddenly Cindelaras's rooster crowed. "Kukuruyuk ... Tuanku Cindelaras, his house is in the middle of a jungle, the roof is of coconut leaves, his father is Raden Putra ...".

Raden Putra was astonished by the Cindelaras rooster. "Cindelaras, is it true what your rooster said?" Raden Putra asked.

"Right, Your Majesty. According to my mother who is now in the jungle, I am Gusti Prabu's son. My mother is Her Majesty the Empress who was exiled to the forest when she was pregnant. He was slandered by a concubine. Believe Gusti Prabu, Mother Servant is innocent. " said Cindelaras.

Seeing this incident the Royal Patih immediately facing Raden Putra. "Forgive Gusti Prabu. I did not carry out Gusti Prabu's decree to kill the Empress. Because I know the Empress is just a victim of the concubine slander. He cooperated with a physician to remove the empress from the palace, and this young man named Cindelaras was really Gusti Prabu's son. " said the royal trainer.

The Empress Returns to the Royal Palace of Jenggala

Hearing Cindelaras' confession and Patih's royal explanation, Raden Putra became very angry. He immediately called the concubine and the physician.

"O my wife and the physician. Is it true that you two have conspired to slander the empress? "

In the presence of Raden Putra, they finally confessed their evil deeds. Both of them begged forgiveness of the King of Jenggala. Raden Putra cannot forgive the two of them. King Jenggala immediately sentenced the physician to death, while the concubine was sentenced by being exiled to the jungle. Finally revealed the crime of the concubine and physician.

Raden Putra immediately ordered his soldiers to pick up the Empress in the seclusion forest. The Empress and her son Cindelaras are now living happily in the royal palace of Jenggala. Truth will ultimately defeat evil.

A Glimpse of the Kingdom of Jenggala

Based on historical records, the kingdom of Jenggala was an empire that stood around 1042, and ended around the 1130s. It is estimated that the location of the kingdom's center is now in the Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. The center of government of the Jenggala kingdom is located in Kahuripan. The name Jenggala itself is thought to originate from the word "Hujung Galuh". Hujung Galuh is located in the estuary area of the Brantas river which is estimated to now be part of the city of Surabaya.

Some of the kings who are known to rule Jenggala include:
    • Mapanji Garasakan, 1044.
    • Alanjung Ahyes, year 1052.
    • Samarotsaha, year 1059.

The existence of the Kingdom of Jenggala / Janggala appears in literary texts that developed during the Islamic kingdoms in Java, for example Babad Tanah Jawiand Pranitiradya Fiber.

The existence of the kingdom of Jenggala cannot be separated from the kingdom of Kahuripan which was founded by Airlangga after the collapse of the Medang kingdom of Mataram. He holds the title of Abhiseka Sri Maharaja Rakai Halu Sri Dharmawangsa Airlangga Anantawikramatunggadewa. The name Airlangga is very famous in various Indonesian folklore. Airlangga's father was named Udayana, a king of the Bedahulu Kingdom (Bali) of the Warmadewa Dynasty. While his mother was named Mahendradatta, a daughter of the House of Isyana from the Medang Kingdom of Mataram in Central Java. So Airlangga is still a descendant of the kingdom of Medang (House of Isyana). He ruled the kingdom of Kahuripan which was centered in the town of Watan Mas near Mount Penanggungan (subsequently moved to the city of Kahuripan, then moved again to the city of Daha) from 1009 to 1042. According to the Terep inscription, the city of Kahuripan was founded by Airlangga in 1032.

In 1042 Airlangga relinquished the post of king and chose to live as a priest with the title of priestly Receipt Aji Paduka Mpungku Sang Pinaka Catraning Bhuwana. However, the crown princess of Airlangga named Sanggramawijaya Tunggadewi refused to become king and chose to live as a hermit. So there arose a power struggle between the other two sons of Airlangga, namely Sri Samarawijaya and Mapanji Garasa.

Airlangga then decided to divide the kingdom of Kahuripan into two kingdoms. Then formed two new kingdoms. The kingdom to the west is called Kadiri and is centered in the new city, namely Daha, ruled by Sri Samarawijaya. While the kingdom in the east called Jenggala was centered in the old city, namely Kahuripan, ruled by Mapanji Garasa. Even so, his two sons still fought a civil war for mutual control.
