Once upon a time, long ago in a peaceful green village called Selo in Central Java, lived a gentle farmer named Ki Ageng Selo. He was a humble man with a big heart, who spent his days caring for his rice fields and helping his neighbors with a warm smile. Though he lived simply, he possessed a secret, magnificent inner strength.
One dark afternoon, giant gray clouds rolled across the sky like angry beasts. BOOM! FLASH! Deafening thunder shook the ground, and fierce bolts of lightning danced violently across the heavens. The poor villagers hid inside their homes, trembling with fear as the storms damaged their crops and roofs.
Seeing his friends and neighbors so afraid, Ki Ageng Selo knew he had to protect them.
The Day the Lightning Was Caught
Without a shadow of fear, Ki Ageng Selo stepped out into the middle of the rain-swept rice fields. He stood tall, looking straight up into the stormy sky.
Suddenly, a giant wave of lightning shot down toward the earth with a roaring sound! But Ki Ageng Selo did not run. With swift hands and a brave heart, he reached out into the air and—SWOOSH!—he caught the crackling lightning right in his bare hands!
As he closed his palms, the hot, roaring lightning suddenly calmed down. It shrank into a tiny, magical object that sparkled softly like a glowing gemstone.
Ki Ageng Selo gently carried the magical stone home and kept it safe. From that day on, the fierce thunderbolts never scared the village again. The skies grew friendly, the fields blossomed, and the happy villagers cheered for their brave hero!
