In an area called Medan Deli, stood a kingdom with a magnificent palace, the palace was named Maimun Palace. The kingdom was founded around the 15-16 century AD. The Malay kingdom was led by a king named Sultan Muhayat Syah. Sultan Muhayat Syah has 3 children. The first child was named Mambang Yazid, the second was named Mambang Khayali, and the third was named Putri Hijau.
The three children of Sultan Muhayat Syah have great powers. Mambang Yazid can transform himself into a dragon. The second son, Mambang Khayali, can turn himself into a cannon. Meanwhile, the youngest, Putri Hijau, can emit a green light on her body when the full moon night arrives. Putri Hijau can not only emit light, but has a very beautiful face. Many people are amazed and fascinated by her beauty. In addition, the princess has a friendly and generous nature to her people.
When the night of the full moon arrived, Putri hijau was taking a walk in the palace garden. The light beam can be seen from quite a distance. Until the beautiful green glow of the princess can be seen by the neighboring kingdom, namely the Aceh sultanate.
The Sultan of Aceh Wins Putri Hijau
According to folklore, The Sultan of Aceh was amazed by the beautiful green light. To his guards, the sultan ordered them to find the location of the green light source. From the information that had been obtained by his guards, it turned out that the green light came from a beautiful princess from a neighboring kingdom who was in the Deli area.
After hearing the explanation from his bodyguards, the sultan finally intended to marry Princess Hijau. The application was prepared, various jewelry and several bodyguards were sent to visit the Princess Hijau kingdom, however, the application was rejected by the princess.
The rejection of the application made the sultan of Aceh very angry. He felt that the Deli Kingdom had spread enmity with the Kingdom of Aceh. For this reason, the sultan sent hundreds of his soldiers to attack the Deli Kingdom because of the result of Princess Hijau's refusal. It turned out that the Deli Kingdom was very tough, the war could not be won by the opposing party. Finally, the Kingdom of Deli won the battle.
The Kingdom of Aceh attacked the Kingdom of Deli
The Sultan of Aceh was not discouraged, in a cunning way, he then fired a cannon as an attack on the Kingdom of Deli with a gold coin bullet. The soldiers of the Kingdom of Deli happily took the gold coins. While the soldiers of the Kingdom of Deli were busy taking gold coins, the kingdom of Aceh finally attacked the Kingdom of Deli. As a result, the Deli Kingdom suffered defeat. The second son of the Deli sultan, Mambang Khayali, did not accept the defeat of his kingdom. He turned his body into a cannon and fired repeatedly at the enemy. As a result of firing cannons for too long at the Acehnese troops, the cannon became very hot. Finally the cannon was cut in half. The tip of the cannon was thrown far away to the border of the Aceh kingdom. Meanwhile, the base of the cannon is still in the courtyard of Maimun Palace.
Deli Kingdom loses war
Seeing the destruction, the Deli Kingdom admitted defeat. Putri Hijau was finally brought by the Aceh kingdom. Mambang Yazid, the older sister of Putri Hijau, finally asked the Aceh sultan for conditions. These conditions are not to touch Putri Hijau until they come to Aceh. In addition, Putri Hijau had to be carried in a glass case, and when she arrived at the Jambu Air area, Putri Hijau had to go down to the river to burn incense and sow rice and eggs. After burning kemanyan and sowing rice and eggs, the princess had to mention her brother's name 3 times. This requirement was fulfilled by the sultan of Aceh, because it was considered easy.
Putri Hijau and the Sultan of Aceh and their bodyguards departed by sailing boat to return to Aceh. The sailing ship can sail the Deli river which is said to have been crossed by a sailing ship in ancient times. In the Jambu Air area, Putri Hijau comes out of her glass chest and goes down to the river to burn incense, sows rice and eggs and says "Mambang Yazid .. Mambang Yazid .. Mambang Yazid .. come my brother and save your sister in the grip of the sultan of Aceh." Finally the river water rippled, the water rumbled and the wind became violent. Princess Hijau finally returned to the glass chest. Not long after, lightning was streaking incessantly and the sky became dark. In this state, a dragon appeared which was actually the incarnation of Mambang Yazid. The dragon finally destroyed the royal ship of Aceh to the point of being destroyed.
Finally, Putri Hijau who was in the glass case was thrown into the river and was adrift. A dragon who is the incarnation of Mambang Yazid brings the glass coffin containing the Putri Hijau into its mouth and takes it to the sea. Until now, no one knows whether Putri Hijau is still alive as a human or has passed away.
This legend is well known among the people of Deli, North Sumatra and Malay people in Malaysia.
