The Legend of the White Siamang

Princess Julian is a beautiful beautiful princess whose beauty spread to various countries. She is the daughter of a ship skipper named Nahkoda Baginda in Alai Village on the north coast of Tiku Beach, West Sumatra. Julian's grandfather was Tuanku Raja Kecik who ruled in the kingdom of Pagaruyung. Although beautiful, beautiful, but until now there has been no young man who dared to propose to Princess Julian.
The Legend of the White Siamang
The reason is the status of Princess Julian who is the daughter of a wealthy merchant and is still a royal descendant of the kingdom of Pagaruyung. The youth in Alai Village and surrounding villages, usually only work as fishermen so they do not dare to propose to Princess Julian.

Princess Julian's solitude made her sad. According to the folklore of West Sumatra, every day he just shut himself in his room. This made Tuanku Raja Kecik worry. He did not want his beloved grandchild too long shut himself up. Finally Tuanku Raja Kecik held a family meeting to discuss the condition of Princess Julian. As a result of the meeting, they agreed to hold a crowd party that could be attended by many people for one full month aimed at finding a suitable match for Julian's daughter.

Dream of Meeting Sutan Rumandung

One day before the crowd party began, Princess Julian dreamed of meeting a handsome young man of royal descent, Sutan Rumandung, whose name was. Princess Julian fell in love with the young man present in her dream. He then told his dreams to his parents and also his grandfather, Tuanku Raja Kecik. Hearing his grandson's narrative, immediately Tuanku Raja Kecik ordered the palace guards to look for a young man of royal descent named Sutan Rumandung during a crowd party. However, for a full month of the party going on, a young man named Sutan Rumandung was also not found.

Putri Julian Promised Faithful To Sutan Rumandung

Not desperate for the sake of his grandson's happiness, Tuanku Raja Kecik asked a fortune-teller in the palace to bring Sutan Rumandung to Alai Village, wherever he was. With the supernatural powers possessed by astrologers, somehow Sutan Rumandung finally came to Alai Village. The ship carrying the Sutan Rumandung was hit by a storm which resulted in a broken pole and eventually forced to dock at the pier of Kampung Alai. A soldier then told Tuanku Raja Kecik that a ship led by a young man named Sutan Rumandung was anchored at the dock. Tuanku Raja Kecik was of course excited and asked the soldiers to bring Sutan Rumandung to the palace.

Some soldiers then took Sutan Rumandung to the palace. Tuanku Raja Kecik with the royal family and of course Princess Julian, welcomed him well. When he saw the handsome young man, the heart of Princess Julian was beating fast because the young man in front of him was present in his dream. Princess Julian then told her parents and grandfather that the young man was named Sutan Rumandung.

Ms. Princess Julian then asked the handsome young man to introduce himself. The young man then explained that he was named Sutan Rumandung who was forced to anchor his ship at the pier of Kampung Alai due to a storm. He also explained that he was a merchant from a foreign country.

Not waiting long, Tuanku Raja Kecik then offered to Sutan Rumandung to marry his granddaughter, Princess Julian. Sutan Rumandung, of course, is willing to marry a princess as beautiful as Princess Julian, except that she asks permission to look for more wealth before marrying Princess Julian. He admitted that currently his business was losing money so he felt it was not appropriate to marry Princess Julian. Tuanku Raja Kecik also tolerated this.

Before leaving Alai Village to continue trading, Sutan Rumandung and Putri Julian became engaged. After the engagement, Sutan Rumandung said good-bye to return to business. Princess Julian felt very sad to be left by her fiance. Before leaving, Princess Julian asked her fiance to pledge allegiance. Princess Julian promised to be faithful waiting for Sutan Rumandung to return. If he breaks his promise, then he will change into a white gibbon. Likewise with Sutan Rumandung, he promised to be loyal to Princess Julian. If he breaks his oath, his ship will run aground in the ocean. After saying goodbye, Sutan Rumandung sailed across the vast air.

Fall in Love with Other Men

As time went on, it had been a year more waiting, Puti Juilan had not yet heard from her fiancé, Sutan Rumandung. Until the end of the second year, there was still no news. Entering the third year, a large and magnificent trading ship anchored at the pier of Kampung Alai. Hearing the arrival of a large ship, Princess Julian hurried towards the dock. But he was disappointed because the ship was not a Sutan Rumandung ship. However, Putr's disappointmentJulian immediately vanished when he learned that the owner of the ship was a handsome young man and also a wealthy merchant of royal descent. This man is no less handsome when compared to Sutan Rumandung. He immediately fell in love with the rich young man he just met and forgot his love for Sutan Rumandung. He said his love for the young man towards his mother.

Mother daughter Julian then invited the handsome young man to the palace. After introducing themselves, Princess Julian's mother offered the handsome young man to marry Princess Julian. The young man agreed. Finally, a very festive wedding party was held.

Princess Julian Changed Forms To A White Siamang

During the Ijab Qabul process, the prince asked Julian's daughter about his willingness to marry the handsome man. As she was about to answer the prince's question, Princess Julian suddenly squealed like a bee stung while jumping to her feet. Julian's voice and body shape changed. His body was smaller and covered with white feathers all over his body. Princess Julian changed form into a white gibbon. The small animal then ran to the roof of the kingdom and roared while looking towards the open sea.

Inevitably all those present witnessed the event and were shocked and ran scattering outside the palace. Tuanku Raja Kecik finally realized that Princess Julian had broken her oath because she had married another man. But the rice has become a porridge. The royal family finally accepted the fact that the white siamang was Princess Julian. Siamang Putih now lives in a Ketaping tree. Every day, when the sun will set, the poor white siamang will rise to the top of the palace ridge while crying out loud. Like the sound of a girl crying. The little animal kept staring at the open sea waiting for the arrival of Sutan Rumandung, his fiance. However, Sutan Rumandang never arrived. Until finally the royal family found the white Siamang dead in the Ketaping tree.

Princess Julian's parents continued to look for news of the existence of Sutan Rumandung until finally heard the news that Sutan Rumandung had died because the ship he was shipwrecked in the ocean when he was about to marry another woman. Sutan Rumandung himself apparently violated his oath because he wanted to marry another woman. Thus the folklore of West Sumatra about Siamang Putih.
