The Rajo Babanding family lives in a four-cornered house around the downstream of the Batang Agam river, Padang Tarok. Sabai Nan Aluih is the eldest daughter of the couple Rajo Babanding and Sadun Saribai. He has a handsome younger brother named M freightak Alam. Sabai Nan Aluih means soft or soft Sabai. Besides having a beautiful face, Sabai also has good manners, polite in speaking and respect for both parents. Unlike his younger brother, M freightak Alam, who has a lazy nature, Sabai is known to be diligent in helping his parents. The beauty of Sabai Nan Aluih has spread to other villages.
According to the folklore of West Sumatra, Rajo Babanding has a good friend who lives in the Sit Tujuh village named Rajo Nan Panjang. He is a wealthy merchant who is respected by the people of the village of Sit Tujuh. Although rich, but Rajo Nan Panjang has a bad temper that is like extorting people around him by lending money but asking for a return with very high interest. The residents of Sit Tujuh village did not dare to fight Rajo nan Panjang because he had three great bodyguards named Rajo nan Konkong, Lompong Bertuah, and Palimo Banda Dalam.
Sabai Proposed by Rajo Nan Panjang
The beauty of Sabai Nan Aluih was heard by Rajo Nan Long. He is interested in proposing his friend's eldest daughter. Rajo nan then sent his envoy to propose Sabai nan Aluih. He was very sure that Rajo Babanding would surely accept his proposal.
The Rajo Nan Panjang delegates then left for Padang Tarok. Arriving in Padang Tarok, they also conveyed their employer's proposal to Sabai nan Aluih's father, Rajo Babanding. But Sabai's father refused his friend's proposal on the grounds he was ashamed to have a daughter who was his age even though he was rich.
After receiving an answer rejection from Rajo Babanding, the envoys immediately returned to the Sit Tujuh Village to deliver the news to Rajo Nan Panjang. Of course Rajo nan Panjang felt very humiliated by the rejection.
Rajo Nan Panjang finally decided to come directly to Rajo Babanding to propose Sabai. Departure Rajo nan Panjang with his three bodyguards. After hearing firsthand the wishes of his best friend to propose Sabai, Rajo Babanding offered to negotiate outside the house, namely at a location called Padang Panahunan on Sunday. Padang Panahunan is a lonely place and has always been used for fighting.
Rajo Babanding fights with Rajo Nan Panjang
Rajo Babanding felt that his best friend had violated manners because he dared to propose to his daughter directly. According to adat in the country, proposals may not be conveyed directly to the girl's father, but to the mother's mother or sister.
Rajo nan Panjang knows that his proposal was subtly rejected by Sabai nan Aluih's father. He realized that he was challenged to fight. He accepted his friend's request and immediately left Rajo Babanding's house in anger.
Sabai Nan Aluih was worried to hear his father's conversation with Rajo Nan Long. Sabai realized that his father challenged Rajo Nan Panjang to a fight. Sabai is very worried about his father's safety. But Rajo Babanding calmed his son's heart that he would be fine.
The appointed day arrived. Rajo Babanding went to Padang Panahunan with a maid named Palimo Parang Tagok. Rajo nan Panjang with a loyal bodyguard Palimo Banda Dalam was waiting. Apparently Rajo nan Panjang deliberately arrived early to set up his cunning tricks. He has ordered two other bodyguards namely Rajo nan Kongkong and Lompong Sorcerer to hide behind bushes. One of them carried a shotgun. The gun will be used if needed.
Not long after, they fought hard. Rajo Babanding and Rajo Nan Panjang fight it out with the assistance of their bodyguards. The fight apparently lasted a long time, finally the guards fell first. King Babanding and King Nan Long continued to fight until finally King Babanding was hit by a bullet by one of the bodyguards from Rajo Nan Long who suddenly appeared from the bushes. Rajo Nan Long is cheating. Rajo Babanding was lying and motionless.
Sabai Nan Aluih
A shepherd accidentally saw this incident. The shepherd then hurried off to Raja Babanding's house to tell the incident to Raja Babanding's family. Hearing the news of his father's condition from the shepherd, Sabai immediately went limp. Sabai invites his sister M freightak Alam to seehis father's condition but his younger brother refused on the grounds of not wanting to seek death.
Sabai ran to Padang Panahunan with a rifle. On the way, Sabai met with Rajo Nan Panjang and his bodyguard. Sabai asked about the cheating of King Nan Long, but King Nan Long only laughed as if mocking the death of King Babanding. Sabai's blood boiled as his father's killer laughed mockingly. Sabai could not contain his anger. At that moment Sabai immediately pulled the rifle trigger he brought from home. A very loud booming sound was heard. The bullet struck King Nan Long's chest and he immediately fell off the horse. Rajo Nan Long was killed instantly.
Ignoring Rajo Nan Panjang, Sabai nan Aluih immediately ran to Padang Panahunan to see his father's condition. Arriving at the place, he found his father was not dead anymore. Sabai's heart was broken because the father he loved so much had gone forever to defend the honor of the family. Not long after, Sabai's mother along with several other residents arrived in Padang Panahunan. Rajo Babanding's body was then taken home to be properly buried.
