Putri Gading Cempaka

Putri Gading Cempaka is the youngest daughter of Raja Ratu Agung. King Ratu Agung himself came from the Majapahit Kingdom. Based on the story, Putri Gading Cempaka is the ancestor of the kings who once ruled in the Lemau River Kingdom, North Bengkulu.

Once upon a time in the past, in the area of ​​Bengkulu Province, once stood a kingdom called the Kingdom of the Serut River. Ratu Agung, a prince from the Majapahit Kingdom, was the founder and first king of the Serut River Kingdom. That said, he was the incarnation of a deity from the Humpback Mountain who was tasked with regulating life on earth.

Ratu Agung ruled the Serut River Kingdom wisely. He is highly respected by his people, even though the people he leads are the Rejang Sawah people who have great stature.

Ratu Agung has six sons and a daughter. The six sons of Ratu Agung are Kelamba Api or Raden Cili, Manuk Mincur, Lemang Batu, Tajup Rompong, Shady Papan, Anak Dalam, and the youngest is a princess named Putri Gading Cempaka.

According to the story, the kingdom of Sungai Serut became famous to various countries not only because of the leadership of Ratu Agung, but also by the beauty of Putri Gading Cempaka. Although the age of Putri Gading Cempaka had just become a teenager, her beauty was already seen as charming as an angel. Many princes have come to ask for her hand, but the Great Queen refused all because the Princess was still not old enough.

Over time, Putri Gading Cempaka grew into an adult girl. Likewise, the Great Empress who is aging. One day, the Great Empress was very ill. He had a feeling that he would not be long. So the King gathered his seven sons and daughters to testify to them.

"O my children. Looks like Father won't live in the world any longer. Therefore, Father entrusts two wills to you, "said the Great Empress to her sons and daughters.

Hearing his father's words, the faces of his sons and daughters became sad, especially Putri Gading Cempaka. He could not help feeling sad to hear what his father said. Slowly the tears dripped down his cheeks.

"Father, don't say that. We don't want to lose Father. " Putri Gading Cempaka sobbed while embracing her father.

"My dear daughter, we are all dying in the hands of God Almighty. We will not be able to hold if death has arrived. " said the Great Queen, trying to calm her daughter's heart.

Their father then delivered his will, "For the sake of upholding a sense of justice, peace and peace in this country, my father surrendered the throne of the Serut River Kingdom to my son Anak Dalam. I hope you all stay united in both joy and sorrow. And if someday the Kingdom of the Serut River is overwritten by a big disaster, I ask you to stay away at Mount Bender. Later in the Humpback Mountain will come a king who is paired with my beloved daughter, Putri Gading Cempaka. "

The surrender of the throne of the Serut River Kingdom to the Anak Dalam was well received by his children. The five older siblings had no jealousy at all. In fact, they strongly support the choice of Anak Dalam as heir to the throne.

One day, a crown prince from the Kingdom of Aceh named Pangeran Raja Muda Aceh came to marry Putri Gading Cempaka. The Prince came with his army using a sailing ship. Arriving at the port of Bangkahulu, the Prince sent some of his advisors to the Royal Serut River Palace to present his proposal to Raja Anak Dalam.

"Please forgive, Your Majesty the King of the Children. We are the envoy of the Viceroy of Aceh from the Kingdom of Aceh. At the moment he is waiting on the boat which is leaning on the dock, "said one messenger while saluting.

"What can I do for your Prince?" asked the King of Children In.

"Actually, the purpose of our visit here is to deliver the proposal Pangeran Raja Muda Aceh to Putri Gading Cempaka. " answered the messenger.

Raja Anak dalam does not want to make his own decision. He invited his brothers to discuss the problem. Meanwhile, the envoys were asked to wait a moment. Not long after, they returned to meet the envoys of the Viceroy to present the results of the consensus that they had decided.

"Forgive us, O envoy of the Young Prince of Aceh. We have decided not to accept the proposal of Prince Raja Muda Aceh. " said the King of the Children Within.

Raja Anak's response In surprised the envoys of the Prince of Aceh. Feeling disappointed, they immediately returned to the dock to report to Raja Muda Aceh. How angry the Prince of Tanah Rencong was when he heard the report.

"How outrageous! They dare to refuse my proposal ?! " said the Viceroy of Aceh furiously.

War Between the Kingdom of Aceh and the Kingdom of the Serut River

Feeling disappointed, the Young Prince of Aceh became angry. He then challenged Raja Anak Dalam to fight. The great war between the Kingdom of Aceh and the Kingdom of the Serut River was inevitable. The war finally lasted for days by taking many casualties from both sides. War continues to rage. The corpses that had been lying around for days without being neglected began to rot. According to folklore, this war became the origin of the name Bengkulu.

Raja Anak Dalam and his entire army felt they could not stand the war anymore. They also could not resist the stench of dead corpses of soldiers. At that moment, the King remembered his father's will.

"O my brothers! In accordance with my father's message that if the Kingdom of the Serut River is no longer safe, we are advised to move to Mount Humpback, "said Raja Anak Dalam.

Finally, Raja Anak Dalam and his six siblings immediately withdrew towards Mount Humpback. Meanwhile, Pangeran Raja Muda Aceh and his surviving troops returned to Tanah Rencong without any results.

After the death of Raja Anak Dalam Into the Humpback Mountain, the Kingdom of the Serut River became chaotic. Hearing the power vacuum in the Kingdom of the Serut River, four nobles of Lebong Balik Bukit came to be king there. However, after successfully conquering the country, they instead fought with each other because of fighting over the territory. According to the story, the dispute of the four nobles was reconciled by Maharaja Sakti, a traveler from the Kingdom of Pagaruyung. He was an emissary of the Kingdom of Pagaruyung, a kingdom in Minangkabau ruled by Seri Maharaja Diraja.

Finally, the four nobles immediately went to Sultan Pagaruyung to request that the just and wise Maharaja Sakti be made king in the Serut River Kingdom. Their request was granted. Maharaja Sakti's coronation ceremony was held in the Kingdom Hall of Pagaruyung. Since then the Kingdom of Sungai Serut changed its name to the kingdom of Bangkahulu.

Maharaja Sakti Becomes King of Bangkahulu Kingdom

After being crowned King of Bangkahulu, His Majesty Maharaja Sakti left for Bangkahulu, accompanied by hundreds of guards. The four nobles who were at war also accompanied the King. Arriving there, the coronation ceremony as king in the Kingdom of Bangkahulu was prepared. However, when the ceremony was about to begin, suddenly the sky turned dark, then there was a very heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. By mutual agreement, the coronation ceremony was finally postponed until the weather returned sunny. However, until the evening, the rain and the storm never stopped.

In the evening, His Majesty Maharaja Sakti dreamed of seeing an angel dancing in a rainstorm. Miraculously, not the slightest body of the angel was wet with rain. The Angel then went to the Humpback Mountain. The next day, His Majesty Maharaja Sakti related his dream to the four nobles. The nobles then asked an astrologer to interpret the dream.

"Forgive me, sire. Apparently, the beautiful angel in the dream of His Majesty was Putri Gading Cempaka, daughter of the ruler of this region in the past. Now, he lives in the Humpback Mountain with his six siblings. If His Majesty can bring the Princess back here, then His Majesty will bring this kingdom back into a strong kingdom. According to my predictions, Putri Gading Cempaka will later bring down kings in this country, "said the fortune teller.

Hearing the explanation of the fortune teller, the king was eager to propose the marriage of Putri Gading Cempaka. He then sent the four nobles and their bodyguards to fetch Putri Gading Cempaka at Mount Humpback. When they arrived, they faced the King of the Children Within.

"Forgive me, sire! We are messengers from Lord Majesty Maharaja Sakti. He was the ruler of the Bangkahulu Kingdom which was once the Kingdom of the Serut River. At his command, hamba asked to pick up Tuanku Putri Gading Cempaka along with your gentlemen. "His Majesty Maharaja Sakti intends to appoint Tuanku Putri Gading Cempaka as empress in the Land of Bangkahulu," said the envoys.

Raja Anak Dalam and his brothers also accepted the proposal of Maharaja Sakti in accordance with their father's will. Finally, the wedding party of Putri Gading Cempaka and Maharaja Sakti was held in Bangkahulu. The party took place lively because along with the coronation ceremony Maharaja Sakti became king in the Land of Bangkahulu.

After marriage, a magnificent new palace was built as the seat of government. Because the location of the palace was in Kuala Sungai Lemau, the kingdom was renamed the Kingdom of the Lemau River. His Majesty Maharaja Sakti led the kingdom of the Lemau River wisely. He and his queen, Putri Gading Cempaka, lived happily.
