Once upon a time, at a temple in Japan, a husband and wife were praying for a child. They have lived together for a long time, but their happiness feels incomplete because they are not blessed with a child.
After they finished praying, they went home. However, they heard the sound of a baby crying behind the bushes as they walked towards the house. They tried to find the baby, so they saw a dwarf-sized baby lying on the grass.
With great care, the wife then held the baby. The baby looks cute. They really liked the baby. Finally they agreed to adopt the baby to be their child. Maybe this is the answer from the results of their praying at the temple.
The husband and wife looked happy taking care of the little baby. However, the baby did not grow big and tall. He still has the body he had when he was a baby. The child was eventually given the name Issun Boshi. Issun Boshi means one sun monk, as he is only 3 centimeters tall.
According to Japanese folklore, Issun Boshi grew up to be a cheerful teenager. She has a kind heart and never feels inferior with her petite height.
When growing up, Issun Boshi asked permission from his father and mother who had raised him to go wandering. His parents objected to Issun Boshi's intentions, but could not stop his only son's wishes. With a heavy heart, they let go of their beloved child to go wandering.
Issun Boshi was given a bowl by his mother for sailing, a pair of chopsticks for rowing, and a needle for a sword. The mother hoped that Issun Boshi could take care of himself while he was wandering.
Issun Boshi accepted his mother's gift with pleasure.
"Thank you father and mother, I hope I can go through the series of life's journey well. Thank you for taking care of me with so much love. I've always loved mom and dad," explained Issun Boshi while moving.
Issun Boshi knows that as he grows older, he must learn to live independently, without being dependent on his adoptive parents. That's why Issun Boshi went wandering.
After traveling a considerable distance, Issun Boshi sailed down the river, armed with a bowl as a boat and a pair of chopsticks to use as oars. Bad luck came to him, he was hit by a frog that jumped from the opposite direction. Issun Boshi finally entered the river. He tried to save himself, luckily Issun Boshi was able to swim up to the river bank.
After arriving at the riverbank, Issun Boshi rested for a while. What a surprise Issun Boshi, because he found a very magnificent house. It turned out that a magnificent house was a royal palace.
With high confidence, Issun Boshi came to the house. He hoped there was a job opening he could do.
In the courtyard of the palace, a king was walking leisurely. The king heard the voice of a young man who did not know where the voice came from.
"Excuse me sir, may I work here?" asked the owner of the voice, Issun Boshi.
The king was still confused because he could not find where the source of the voice came from. He looked left and right.
"I'm here sir, downstairs," explained Issun Boshi again.
The king then looked down. How surprised the king was, because he found a dwarf young man standing tall with a needle as his sword.
"Is that your voice, young man?" asked the king.
“Yes, sir,” replied Issun Boshi with a smile. "May i work here?"
The king frowned and thought for a moment. He was still figuring out what jobs a human as small as Issun Boshi could do.
“I do have a dwarf body, Your Majesty, but I can protect you because I have high martial skills,” Issun Boshi did not lose heart.
"Perhaps I will not make you my bodyguard, but my daughter's bodyguard," said the king with a smile.
"Thank you Your Majesty," Issun Boshi thanked the king for his kindness.
Finally Issun Boshi was introduced to the king's daughter. The beautiful princess welcomed Issun Boshi as her personal bodyguard. The kind-hearted princess didn't care about Issun Boshi's stunted stature, they actually seemed close and became good friends.
One day, Issun Boshi escorted the princess to worship at the temple. Unknowingly, there is a green demon who is trying to kidnap the princess. The green demon uses a magic hammer as his weapon.

Issun Boshi finally noticed the green devil's movements. Seeing the green demon's movements, Issun Boshi immediately attacked to knock out the green demon. He tried to climb into the green demon's body until it reached his head. After reaching the green demon's head, Issun Boshi jumped into the green demon's mouth. He then tore the green devil's mouth to make the green devil feel pain. The green devil screamed in pain, his mouth was bleeding profusely. He managed to escape from the temple, but his magic hammer was left behind.
The princess who saw the incident was finally grateful to have been helped by Issun Boshi. She didn't expect to be kidnapped by a green demon carrying a magic hammer. The princess knows that the magic hammer can grant wishes.
Finally the princess took the magic hammer while reading a request "God, I beg you, make Issun Boshi like a human who has a normal body posture.”
Issun Boshi's body finally changed into a normal human posture. After having a normal body posture, Issun Boshi's face actually looks handsome.
“Thank you princess, you have done a miracle to me. My body became normal like a normal human being,” said Issun Boshi.
Finally the king's daughter and bodyguard, Issun Boshi, returned to the palace. The king looked surprised because his daughter was with a handsome young man. After being explained by the princess, it turns out that the young man is Issun Boshi.
The king learned that the princess and Issun Boshi had fallen in love. Finally the king married his daughter to Issun Boshi. Issun Boshi and the king's daughter live happily.
