The Legend of Mount Tampomas

Mount Tampomas is located in Sumedang Regency, West Java Province. Previously Mount Tampomas was named Mount Gede. According to the folklore of West Java, during the Sumedang kingdom, Gunung Tampomas once issued an eruption, and to stop the eruption, the king of Sumedang Larang had to throw a golden dagger into the crater of Mount Gede so that his name was changed to Mount Tampomas. Once upon a time there stood a kingdom led by a wise viceroy. His name was forbidden from Sumedang Kingdom. The kingdom of Sumedang Larang is located in the Sumedang area, now in West Java. The kingdom of Sumedang Larang has a fertile and prosperous nature. The people have never experienced hunger. The people lived peacefully and peacefully under the leadership of a just and wise viceroy. In the kingdom of Sumedang Larang stood a mountain called Gunung Gede. The mountain has dense forests, fertile soil and abundant flowing water.

Mount Gede Erupts

One day, there was a sudden roar accompanied by a fairly strong rocking ground. The people of Sumedang Larang immediately felt shocked. They ran out of the house to the open space. Investigate a calibaration, it turns out that the roar came from Mount Gede which seems to be erupting. The people of Sumedang Larang who live at the foot of Mount Gede are worried about this situation. They immediately packed up and went with their families to flee away from Mount Gede.

"Good King, I obey the king's orders." said the patih.

The king then entered a special room that was used for meditation. After a few days of meditating the king finally listened to a magical whisper that ordered him to throw a golden kris belonging to his ancestors into the crater of Mount Gede. "If you want to save your people from the eruption of Mount Gede, then throw by your ancestors the golden kris into the crater of Mount Gede. Undoubtedly the roar of Mount Gede will subside. "

After hearing this magical whisper, the king collapsed. Feeling worried about the king's condition because he had not been out of the room for several days, the guard soldiers ventured into the room to find the king unconscious. The soldier then brought the king out and immediately summoned the Patih and the royal physicians. Some time later the king was conscious of his stupor. The king immediately told Patih that he had to head to the crater of Mount Gede to throw a golden kris belonging to his ancestors.

"I must immediately go to the crater of Mount Gede and throw a golden kris belonging to my ancestors so that the roar of Mount Gede subsides." said the king.

"But that is very dangerous king. I'll do it. " said the patih.

"Can not. I have to do it myself to save my people from this disaster. I have given up my life to save my people. " said the king.

Finally, riding a horse, the king went to the top of Mount Gede. Various obstacles through the king with a dashing. Since that incident, Mount Gede has been renamed Tampomas Mountain because the crater received a golden kris belonging to the ancestor of the king of Sumedang Larang.

"I got a clue, I have to climb Mount Gede and throw a golden kris from my ancestors into the crater," said the king.

"That's very dangerous your majesty," answered the governor.

"For the sake of my people, I'm willing to risk my life," said the king.
