On the coast of the city of Banten, there lived a mother and her son. The mother has long been a widow. His only child is named Dampu Awang. They live very poor and deprived. However, even though their lives are very poor, Dampu Awang has very high aspirations. He wanted to be a rich merchant. However, this goal is very difficult to achieve. Let alone to become a wealthy merchant. A job he still doesn't have.
One day, there was a sailing ship docked by a rich merchant named Teuku Abu Matsyah. The rich merchant would trade in Banten. Seeing the rich merchant's ship, a desire arose to work there as a crew member. He immediately returned home and expressed his wish to his mother.
“Mother, in the harbor there is a ship of a very rich merchant who is trading here. I would love to work on his ship. If I'm lucky, who knows I can become a rich merchant like him. Mom, can I go sailing with him? Ask Dampu Awang.
However, his mother immediately forbade it.
''No my son! You can't go sailing with that rich merchant,'' answered the mother firmly.
''Why ma'am? The way I work on the ship. I can help mother to fulfill our needs. Especially if one day I can become a rich merchant. Our lives will change,'' said Dampu Awang.
''No kid! Mother was very scared. If you become rich later. You will definitely forget your poor mother,'' said her mother sadly.
However, Dampu Awang kept on whining to be allowed to go sailing. Finally, with a heavy heart the mother relented. The mother allowed Dampu Awang to go sailing with the merchant. However, the mother asked Dampu Awang to promise that he would always give news. Before leaving, the mother left his father's favorite bird.
"Take good care of the bird, son, and don't forget to give the news," said his mother.
"Okay ma'am, I will not forget your message," said Dampu Awang.
The mother cried and hugged her child very tightly. Dampu Awang immediately boarded the ship and was ready to sail to Malacca.
While on the ship, Dampu Awang was known as a very diligent worker. He always carried out his master's orders well. Merchant Teuku Abu Matsyah was very happy to see the spirit of Dampu Awang. His position continues to rise and is always satisfying.
One day, the rich merchant called Dampu Awang
''My lord! What is the need, sir, to call me?'' said Dampu Awang.
''This is Dampu Awang. I see your work is very good. As long as you work here, you always show your respect. I really want to set you up with my daughter. Siti Nurhasanah. How? Do you want to marry him?” said Teuku Abu Matsyah.
Dampu Awang was very surprised to hear what his employer said. he was very happy.
"Of course I am ready sir," Dampu Awang replied.

After becoming a rich merchant. He forgot his mother. He never again gave news and was lulled by luxury. One day, Dampu Awang and his wife sailed to the coast of Banten. They arrived at the area where Dampu Awang lived.
The entire population was amazed to see the luxury of the Dampu Awang ship. The residents flocked to the harbor to see the very luxurious sailing ship. The news about the docking of the luxurious sailing ship was heard by Dampu Awang's mother. He was very sure that the rich merchant was his son. He immediately rushed to the port to meet Dampu Awang.
Arriving at the port, Dampu Awang's mother saw her son standing on the side of the ship and wearing very luxurious clothes. In addition, the mother also saw a very beautiful woman standing beside her. The mother is very happy because her son, now has a wife. He immediately ran towards the ship to approach his son. He ran fast and shouted his son's name.
"Dampu Awang my son, you're back son, I really miss you," said the mother, crying happily.
Dampu Awang was very surprised to see an old woman whose clothes were tattered and very dirty. He knew the face of the woman who was calling his name. He knew that the woman was his mother. However, he was very embarrassed to admit that the woman who was like a beggar was his mother.
“Kang, is that old woman your mother? Why have you never told me that you still have a mother?” asked his wife in surprise.
''No dear! That old woman is not my mother. My mother died long ago. She's just a crazy girl. Just ignore what he said. It's really not important!'' said Dampu Awang.
The mother kept calling her name.
“Hey, old woman! Shut up! You're not my mother. I don't have a mother anymore. My mother died a long time ago!” said Dampu Awang very annoyed.
The mother was very surprised to hear what her son said. Now her fear has come true. Her heart was like being sliced. Now, her own biological child does not recognize her as his mother. Her tears rolled down her cheeks. Unknowingly she prayed.
'Oh my God, am I wrong? If he is not my son Dampu Awang, let him go. But, if he's my son. Please give him the punishment he deserves!'' the mother prayed.
Not long after, the earth suddenly shook. The sky rumbled. Lightning struck very badly. The sky turned very dark. Suddenly, there was a storm. The very luxurious Dampu Awang sailing ship was bobbing in the ocean. The whole content is in tatters. Dampu Awang and his wife are very panicked and confused
Suddenly, Dampu Awang's pet bird spoke.
“Damp Awang! Acknowledge that woman as your mother. Hurry up and admit her!'' said the bird.
"No, my mother died long ago!" Dampu Awang shouted.
Instantly, the Dampu Awang sailing ship suddenly lifted into the air and was thrown to the south and all of its contents. The ship turned upside down and formed a mountain. Dampu Awang and his wife could not save themselves. After that the ocean returned to normal and it was as if nothing had happened.
The ship that lay face down and became a mountain was known as Gunung Pinang. Mount Pinang still exists and is located between Serang City and Cilegon City. Such is the Banten folklore entitled The Origin of Mount Pinang. I hope this story is useful. The lesson we can take is that we must respect and love our parents. To disobey him will wreak havoc on us.
The following are folk tales originating from the province of Banten. The Origin of Mount Pinang is the title of this story.
