In ancient times, stood a kingdom led by a king. The king was upset. Where he has no son. All of his children are girls. He intended to raise a boy. However, he hopes that the boy will have a good personality and is full of honesty.
The king finally discussed with his advisors, what should he do to find an honest-hearted adopted son. The king's advisors suggested that the king hold a competition to choose his people who should be appointed as sons.
Finally, the king held a competition to choose his adopted son. The contest is quite unique. The king gave seeds to plant for the young people of the land. Many young men came to the palace to take the seeds of the plants that had been planted in these pots. They hoped to become adopted children of the king.
One of the village youths, Yong Tu, took part in the competition. He also received plant seeds that had been planted in the pot.
“O my people, I hope you will nurture the seed of this plant so that it becomes a plant that grows thick and good. With the adjusted time, you will gather again to show the results of the plants that you have cared for. If you succeed in caring for it, I will make you your adopted son as my successor later!” exclaimed the king in front of the young men.
Yong Tu also brought the seeds of the plant home to his house. With great care, he took care of the seed to become a fine and beautiful plant. However, the seeds did not grow. Even though he has been caring for the plant for a month.
His mother, who saw that Yong Tu was confused, finally suggested that he replace the plant seed container.
“Yong Tu, try to replace the container with a wider container. Maybe the container is too small for the plant,” suggested the mother.
Yong Tu finally took his mother's advice. He replaced the container or plant pot with a larger container. Unfortunately, the plant has not yet grown. Yong Tu feels sad about the crops he cares for. He felt he failed to care for these plants. But he realized that he could not help but be generous to face the fact that the seeds of his plants did not grow.
A few days later, the appointed day had arrived. Yong Tu finally left for the king's palace. Before leaving, Yong Tu said goodbye to his mother.
"Mom, i want to go. The plant seeds that I tended didn't grow, and I couldn't help but have to bring it forward the king,” said Yong Tu, bowing sadly.
"It's okay my son, the important thing is you have tried to take care of it," said Yong Tu's mother with a smile.
Yong Tu finally went to the palace. Arriving at the palace, he discovered how many young men his age brought plants that were very lush and beautiful. Some of them were even seen mocking Yong Tu who only brought a pot filled with soil without being overgrown with plants.
“Hey Yong Tu, what are you carrying? the king will not be happy and will not even make you his son," said one of the young men greeting Yong Tu with a mocking smile.
“Ha ... ha ha, you have bad luck Yong Tu. Listen me, the king must be disgusted by your crops,” said another young man.
The youths laughed out loud mockingly at Yong Tu. Yong Tu was silent. He just obeyed the king's orders, that's all.
Until it was time for the young men to gather in a field near the palace. The king finally came, checking one by one the plants of the young men. The king's face looked displeased, even a little angry.
In the corner of the last row, there was Yong Tu, who was standing with a sad bow. The king finally saw Yong Tu. With slow steps, the king walked towards a young man named Yong Tu.
"Why are you sad, young man? where is your plant? " calmly, the king asked Yong Tu.
"Your majesty, I have taken care of this plant with all my heart. However, this plant cannot grow as desired. Until finally I brought the seeds of the plant without being overgrown by plants,” Yong Tu replied.
His Majesty seemed to be smiling. Her face glowed again. He looked at Yong Tu filled with pride.
Loudly, the king said "I have found who will be my adopted son!"
Yong Tu and all the audience who were listening in unison were shocked. They didn't expect the king to say that.
"Sorry, your majesty, how can you raise a young man who has failed to take care of his plants, so that not a single plant grows in that pot," said one of the young men.
The king who listened to the young man's criticism smiled and said, “Do you know? that the seed of the plant that I gave you in the pot I had boiled before ?, the seed of the plant could not possibly grow. This young man has tested his honesty."
All participants in the competition were finally surprised. They bowed listlessly to hear the explanation from the king, except for a young man named Yong Tu. They realize that they have committed a lie to win the competition. Their lies were finally exposed. They have replaced them with other plants to win the competition.
Yong Tu finally became the adopted son of the king. Yong Tu is an honest boy. At the palace, Yong Tu was finally educated to hone his skills as a leader. Even so, Yong Tu remains an honest young man who is liked by all circles.
